Muscle Growth - One of the most important
things to know when you have decided to
change your body in order to be healthier
and fitter, is that there will be times
when you feel discouraged, convinced that
you are making no progress at all. And the
people in your life might

even contribute to this by saying certain things that result
in you wanting to give up. It is important for you to
know, right from the beginning, what direction you wish to
take, as well as determining the likelihood of being able to
achieve your objectives. You might know what you want your body
to look like and what weight you would like to be, and the best
way to see how you are doing is to set goals for yourself,
remembering that any work you put in will show results.
First things first! Begin by asking yourself what it is that
you want to achieve, because seting goals for yourself is both
helpful and also important. The best way is to write this all
down in a journal using what is called the S.M.A.R.T method.
The goals you set need to Specific, Measurable, Attainable,
Realistic and Timely, because you need to work within a
specified time-frame. Make sure that your goals are written
down and always close by so that you are able to see them at
any time.
Long-term goals need to be specific, because the more specific
they are the easier it will be for you to focus on each one.
You need to determine what weight you would like to be. Do you
want to build muscles and, if so, which muscle groups do you
wish to target? Perhaps you are looking at changing your waist
size, or you wish to alter your body fat percentage once you
know what it is. The trick is to be specific and focus on your
long-term goals first.
Setting yourself goals that you are able to measure is also
very important. You might have decided that you want to build
bigger biceps, or that you want to shrink your waist size but
you need to know what size you want them to be, because being
specific is important. Once you have a tape measure and a scale
you will be able to track your improvements until such time
that you reach your goal measurements. Therefore, knowing what
number you want to achieve before you begin will in itself be a
goal to work toward.
One of the most frustrating things in life is realizing that
you are unable to reach the goal you set for yourself because
you set the bar to high. It is vitally important that the goals
you set are truly attainable and realistic. Having big ideas is
a good thing and you should have them in order to push
yourself, but they must not be unrealistic. Setting impossible
goals will demotivate you. The time frame you set for yourself
to attain your goals must also be realistic. Therefore, record
all of this in your journal.
Also, try to visualize what it is that you want to accomplish.
If you are trying to get back to the way you used to look then
put that picture in prominent places for you to look at, so
that you can constantly be reminded of what it is you are
trying to do. If it is a certain person or people that you are
trying to look like then have their picture up where it can
easily be seen. If there is a motivating factor that is causing
you to make these changes, someone you want to impress or win
back, then put their picture up.
Now comes the short term goals. The best way to reach your long
term goals is to attack them in bite size chunks. What is the
best way to eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Have weekly
goals that you write down for yourself. How much time are you
going to spend on aerobic activity this week? How much time per
day will you be doing it? What days are you going to be working
on certain muscle groups. Write down a plan that you are going
to stick to for the week. apply the S.M.A.R.T. method to your
weekly goals.
Any journey needs a starting point and a destination. On this
journey to a more healthy and fit body, it is you who is
deciding the destination and it is you who is going to be
plotting the course. You have total control over this
adventure. Don't believe that it is something that you cannot
do. You can. All you have to do to get good muscle growth and
get in better condition, is to set good goals for yourself and
then start on the journey.
