actually achieve positive results, but also cut down on long
hours spent at the gym. Interested? Well, heres what you need
to know about the best lower ab exercises and the best home ab
exercises for you.
Most people dont know this but the best exercises for working
your abs are those that cause your body to lose balance. When
this happens, each and every muscle in your body, even those
deep inside, will need to work together to restore stability,
thus giving you the best results. Now you know why regular
sit-ups that only work the muscles on the outside do not give
you the great abs that youre looking for?
Thus, which ab exercises help to lower your stability?
Essentially, any movements that are done on an uneven platform
are great. For example, exercises such as single leg squats,
using a balance beam, single arm shoulder presses, and also
doing bent over dumbbell rows while standing on only one leg.
Using a large exercise ball for ground abdominal exercises is
also great. Utilizing a BOSU ball as well doing movements with
a stability ball will also get the job done. Basically, if you
just have a stability ball and a good set of free weights,
these can be the best home ab exercises you need.
By far the most effective lower ab exercises are hanging leg
raises while you use your lower abs to rotate your pelvis which
is the secret to performing this effectively. Lying leg raises,
lying leg raises on a 45 degree incline and cable crunches are
also rock hard ab exercises. Another area you might want to
venture into with your ab exercises are those that utilize
heavy weights. While this will not necessarily get you 'cut' so
that all your individual muscles are showing - that takes
having low levels of body fat, what weighted movements will do
is help further build the muscle tissue and make your abs
"pop".
You should also try doing movements with heavy weights as part
of your ab workout. Such exercises will not help you to achieve
the cut and chiseled look that professionals have as that
requires a low body fat percentage; but doing exercises with
heavy weights will surely assist in muscle building and for abs
that pop!
Increased muscle mass translates into a much faster metabolic
rate, which in turn will indirectly also help to melt away your
surplus body fat. Moreover, performing exercises with heavy
weights also helps to enhance your strength significantly,
thereby lowering your chances of getting injuries from other
exercises that you do. If one were to ask me what my favorite
home ab exercise is, it would have to be doing weighted ball
crunches keeping a stability ball on your chest.
As far as knowing when you should do your ab workout, it has to
be on a day other than when you do other exercises. You need
your muscles to be fresh when youre doing ab exercises so that
you can get the best performance from them.
If, on the other hand, you are more just doing them to help
build some strength, but more to round out your exercise
program, then you should be doing them at the end of your
workout session. This will prevent them from fatiguing early,
because they are going to be predominately used in all the
other lifts you perform (heavy squats for example).
There are exceptions to the rule though. For instance, for a
client whose ab muscles are quite weak, I would not recommend
doing ab exercises at the end of their workout session. By the
end, their ab muscles will be so tired that they wont be able
to train them effectively. Thus, in such cases, the ab workout
will be done at the beginning of the exercise session.
So, next time you are creating your workout and are picking out
ab exercises, keep these points in mind. Having good dedication
to performing these exercises on a regular basis and then
following a clean diet based around raw vegetables and proteins
are the two main components to developing that six-pack you're
hoping for.
